Caissons roll to 91-45 win over Roanoke College JVs

A 11-2 first-half run gave Fishburne some early breathing room, and a 14-0 run out of the halftime break erased whatever sliver of doubt remained as the Caisson postgrad basketball team finished off the Roanoke College JV team 91-45 Tuesday night.

“We tried to put a lot of pressure on the ball, disrupt their offense and get out and run,” said Chase Cormier (Windsor Mill, Md.), who scored four points in setting the table for FMS at the point-guard position.

Kyle Rhoades (Lumberton, N.C.) led the Caissons with 17 points. Alassane Kah (Columbus, Ohio) and Maurice Simon (Heidelberg, Germany) added 14 points apiece for Fishburne, which improved to 6-0 on the season with the win.

It was a three-pointer from Memphis recruit Kuran Iverson (Hartford, Conn.) that ignited the early run that gave Fishburne a 15-5 lead 3:27 into the game. FMS led 49-28 at the break and took control in the second with the 14-0 run capped by a pair of threes from Zak Kirkbride (Zanesville, Ohio) that made it 63-28 with 15:10 to go.

The going gets a lot tougher this weekend as Fishburne travels to New Haven, Conn., for the Nerr Prep Showcase. The Caissons will take on a pair of prep powers – Friday vs. Northfield Mt. Herman and Saturday against St. Thomas More.

“We’ve got to be ready to play. We’re ready for two tough days of basketball,” Rhoades said.
