Caissons Gather for George Washington Birthday Parade
On Monday, 18 Feb, the Caissons will travel north for president’s day in order to take part in one of the nation’s oldest events. Celebrating George Washington’s birthday at Old Town Alexandria’s annual parade has become a Fishburne Military School tradition over the years.
This year, Fishburne Cadets will also be looking to defend the “Best Youth Military Unit and Drill Team” title awarded to them last year in this parade, which is the largest parade celebrating the birth of George Washington in the USA.
Alumni, Parents, Faculty, Staff and FMS supporters gather with the Corps each year for a pre-parade tailgating event. The Fishburne family will gather at the 700 block of Wilkes Street (between South Columbus St. and South Washington St.) in Old Town Alexandria beginning at Noon on Monday. The Corps of Cadets is scheduled to arrive around 1215.
Fishburne Alumni, Family and supporters are invited to attend.
Coffee, hot chocolate, doughnuts and Caisson Pride are served up all the Caissons to enjoy before the Cadets take their place in the parade line.
The George Washington Birthday Parade, the largest and oldest in the country celebrating this Founding Father, will wind its way through a one-mile route along the historic streets of Old Town from 1 to 3 p.m. Annually the parade includes thousands of participants including historical, community and youth groups, bands, horses and canines. More events throughout the birthday weekend make it the cornerstone of a month of celebratory events.
