Caissons Football Tops RMA

Fishburne Military School Caissons Improve to 2-2

Front Royal, VA – recap from Coach Goodnough – The Fishburne Military School Caissons Football team had to travel to Randolph-Macon Academy (RMA) due to poor field conditions following last week’s torrential downpours.Fishburne Military School Beats Randolph-Macon Academy RMA was coming off of a sound victory over Massanutten Military Academy and were licking their chops as FMS had to play on the road for the fourth straight game. FMS has played with adversity all season long, and being the underdog has been common ground for the Caissons. As the dust settled at the battle’s conclusion, Fishburne stood on top, 36-21.

With long scoring runs by Kaleb Bradley (Rich Square, NC) and two interceptions by Dylan Gladhill (New Market, MD), Fishburne took advantage of the opportunities they were given. FMS’ defensive line stifled RMA’s well-oiled read option attack, allowing only one touchdown by the RMA offense due to a miscommunication in the secondary.

Special teams were a weak point for Fishburne, where they allowed two kick returns for touchdowns. Fishburne proved their toughness by completing an intense battle at the goal line in the fourth quarter, with a little over a minute left in the game. RMA took the ball down to the two yard line, pinning FMS’ back against the wall. Defensive End Silvio Dionisotti (Sudbury, MA) stifled the pass in the backfield on first and goal, amping up FMS’ defense. On second and goal, John Sawn (Glen Allen, VA) was called on a questionable pass interference as he swatted the ball going towards an intended slant route. On the repeated second down, RMA had mere inches to punch the ball in, but little did they know that FMS would dig their heels into the dirt, defending their ground all the way to a successful goal line stand. The offense followed the determined defensive stop with a 35-yard drive resulting in the coveted victory formation.

Fishburne will be on the road again with a three-day turnaround, taking on  Rappahannock County this Friday.
