Fishburne Military School XC Starts Season Strong

Penn Laird, VA — The Fishburne Military School (Waynesboro, VA) Caisson Cross Country runners got off to a strong start in their first meet of the season during the Eastern Mennonite (Harrisonburg, VA) Invitational. The Fishburne team bested all of the other private schools at the meet (Middleburg, Grace Christian, Stuart Hall, Eastern Mennonite, Homeschool Flames) as well as local 2A high school Stuarts Draft.
Caissons’ Sophomore Garrett Rose (Columbus, IN) clocked a first mile at 5:54 and went on to record a final time of 20:04, good enough for 34th place in a field of 106 runners. He was followed by Senior Jason Bruinius (Charlotte, NC) with a time of 21:09, good enough for 58th. Next were cadets Mitchell Cooper (Manakin Sabot, VA) in 64th, Jack Koster (Prosper, TX) in 69th and Riley Malone (Waynesboro, VA) in 71st.
Fishburne Military School’s three Middle Schoolers did well in their 2 mile race with 8th grader Justin Hill (St. Augustine, FL) placing 37th of 183 runners with a time of 14:14.
Eighth grader Michael Ball (Reston, VA) followed in 76th and Ian Clardy (Arlington, VA) finished 113.
The next meet for Fishburne Military School’s Cross Country team is the Augusta County Invitational at nearby Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, VA.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
