Caissons Basketball Tops Holy Cross
Fishburne 57
Holy Cross 50
recap by Bryan Greene, Head Coach
The Caissons did as expected and beat the Gaels of Holy Cross on Thursday night in Lynchburg, but it was not the game anyone thought it would be after Fishburne won by 31 at home last month. Holy Cross never got behind by more than 12 the entire game but the Caissons led from the score of 6-4 in the first quarter until the end of the day. Senior captain Cederick Ross led the Caissons with 24 points while Robert Smith had 13. Thomas Beyene added 11 of the bench going 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Hunter Couchot scored 5 points before reaggravating an ankle injury he suffered at Covenant last week. Antwan Brown and Garrison Grady added 2 points apiece to the winning effort.
Fishburne’s Varsity team is now 7-8 (4-8 VIC) and will host DIII #1 Millwood on Monday at 4:30.
Coach’s Comments:
This game shows that you can’t look at records late in the season. Each team is coming into their own right now and the cream will rise to the top. Holy Cross matches up better with us than with any other team in the conference. They are improving just like we are and they showed us that they can be competitive. We have to be at our best next week. Our state and conference rankings depend on it.
