Caisson Invitational XC Meet, Waynesboro Va.

All of the volunteer efforts complemented by great weather made for a successful Caisson Invitational at our home course– Coyner Springs.
For the team, it was a mixed bag at Tuesday’s meet. Avery Romp continued to lead the runners with a PR (personal record) of 19:30, placing him 12th overall.  Four other Caisson runners set PR’s: James Beard; Camren Rager; Willy Regi and Cody Chapple, with Chapple shaving off more than 2 1/2 minutes off of his previous record. Those four runners finished just outside the scoring five.
The remaining scorers had a hard time setting PR’s, perhaps hurt by their slow start and slow 2 mile splits that could not be made up in the final mile. Mostly due to the efforts of Avery Romp, the team average time did improve to the best of the season– 21:03. The Caissons finished 6th of the 8 teams, good enough to defeat Hargrave and Virginia Episcopal School. Roanoke Catholic first place, followed closely by Covenant.
Fortunately, for those same runners disappointed in their performance, they will return to Coyner Springs for the VIC Conference championship. Encourage them to start fast, stay fast and hold nothing back.
