Busy Week for Caissons Soccer

Fishburne Military School Soccer Team Has Active Week

recap by Coach Lacey —  Waynesboro, VA — Fishburne Military School Varsity Soccer (4-10-0) played a triad of matches this week: two away and one at home. The week’s matches started by travelling to Lynchburg on Tuesday, October 17^th to play Holy Cross on a short, uneven pitch on a comfortable and cool afternoon. Caisson team captain Bobby Palermo struck early in the 6^th minute by an assist from midfielder Charles Wilson. That one-point lead was maintained for the remainder of the half with Keeper Derek Prestes saving four, and the squad taking ten shots and forty-eight steals. That Caisson lead was widened in the second by another Palermo unassisted goal in the 73^rd. Keeper Prestes finished the second half with another seven saves, while the squad took an added ten shots and thirty-seven steals. Caissons won 2-0.

The second match was played at Anderson Field against Hargrave on Thursday, October 19^th. The opponents struck in the 7^th and 10^th minutes. Keeper Prestes would save six nets in the first half, with the squad taking twelve shots, thirty-one steals, and one yellow. The opponents netted from a corner in the 56^th. Keeper Prestes saved four before being subbed by Connor Green in the 68^th. The squad took an additional five shots and a hard-fought forty-two steals with one yellow to finish the last half.

The week’s trilogy ended with a match against Grace Christian at nearby Wayne Hills Baptist on a hard, uneven pitch on a very sunny afternoon, Friday, October 20^th. The opponents struck in the 11^th minute. Keeper Prestes saved seven in the first half, while the squad took three shots, thirty-nine steals, and one yellow. The opponents struck again in the second half in the 45^th, 46^th, 53^rd, 60^th, and 66^th minutes. Fishburne midfielder Adam Bowles made the sole response with a surprising goal from his corner-kick in the 64^th. Keeper Prestes saved an additional ten in the second, while the squad took another two shots, forty-six steals, and a second yellow that became a red due to the first awarding.

The season final against Hargrave–home at Anderson Field–remains to be played on Thursday, October 26th.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
