Busy Parents Weekend at Fishburne

Parents Military Weekend was a glorious pageant of presentation. Each activity was warmly received by our families and friends.

Parents are happy that their sons look wholesome and that their potential is emerging. They are comforted by the CDO’s attention to their sons in the off hours and they feel safe about their boys living in the barracks. They understand and appreciate fully the effort involved to make the school presentable for their visit They like the fact that Fishburne has recognized the mission for their sons and that the job of educating him is firmly in progress.

Weekend Highlights

New cadets had breakout which consisted of testing of regulations and procedures. Then new cadets were asked to move the Fishburne bus, which was boarded by old men and driven by 1st Sgt. Hensley, when the new cadets were not able to move the bus they were joined by the old men and together pulled the bus from the south west entrance to the northwest entrance of campus.

The solemnity and precision of the induction of new members to The National Honor Society was very impressive. Cadets and parents marvelled at the serious emphasis placed on the honor of becoming a member. One mother told me that her daughter “just received a letter”. Mothers cried.

In the classroom, parents were happy and encouraged that the plan for subject mastery was in place and that supplemental measures were available for their sons’ success.

The parade was excellent and the incorporation of new cadets was especially poignant. The Band is always a marvel. Promotions were well deserved. Drill Team was exceptional.

Again the pageantry is such a contrast to anything parents have witnessed with their son’s participation.

The Silent Auction netted almost six thousand dollars which is in a fund to share with cadets for treats, events, and special favors when the occasions arise. Exams, holidays, special groups, and the corps in general will benefit from the auction’s donations. The generosity of Fishburne donors, to include Ms. Dawn Clement, Ms Joan Byrne, Colonel Zinser, Major Danas, Ms. Ingersoll, Ted Moroney, Nick Weaver, and J B Yount exemplified the spirit of caring within the school family. Parents and friends stepped up to complete the donor list.

New Fishburne technology as well as newly renovated and updated classrooms showcased learning opportunities here at Fishburne.  The Chem lab was the most recently completed endeavor.  The Lawton Chapel was formally dedicated in a ceremony attended by members of the Lawton Family.  A bas relief dedicating the chapel was unveiled and will be placed in the entrance to the chapel as a permanent acknowledgement of Dr. Lawton’s endowment to Fishburne for the chapel.
