Burrell named Patriot League Rookie of the Year

Holy Cross freshman guard Justin Burrell (FMS ’11) was named the 2011-2012 Patriot League Rookie of the Year in men’s basketball, as voted by the conference’s head coaches. Burrell was also selected to the Patriot League All-Rookie team.

Burrell averaged 7.4 points, 3.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game on the year for the Crusaders, while hitting 78.0 percent of his free throws (64 of 82). He finished the regular season ranked second in the league in assists, third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7-to-1), 11th in free throw percentage and 29th in scoring. Burrell has scored in double-figures 10 times on the year, in addition to leading the team in assists 19 times.

He stepped up his play during Holy Cross’ a six-game winning streak toward the end of the 2011-2012 season, averaging 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists during that time, while connecting on 50.0 percent of his three-point field goal attempts (nine of 18).
