The FMS Leadership for Life Scholarship: Details
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE LEADERSHIP FOR LIFE SCHOLARSHIP?
An eligible applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Rising 8th – 11th graders qualified to attend Fishburne Military School according to normal matriculation requirements and accepted for admission.
- Demonstrates outstanding academic achievement. Minimum academic criterion is the attainment of a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or the equivalent for a rising 9th
- Presents a propensity to lead contemporaries.
- Exhibits ability to be a strong participant in athletic or other extra circular school activities.
- Has proven resolve to participate in community service undertakings.
HOW LONG DOES THE LEADERSHIP FOR LIFE SCHOLARSHIP APPLY?
Leadership for Life Scholarships will be renewable contingent upon the student achieving and maintaining the following criteria.
- Student will maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Become an invested and strong contributor to the Corps of Cadets exhibiting the tenants of leadership commensurate with the seniority of their grade.
- Be a strong participant in both athletics and other extracurricular cadet activities.
- Refrain from any Class I or Class II disciplinary offenses.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE LEADERSHIP FOR LIFE SCHOLARSHIP?
- APPLY TO FMS – Prospective recipients complete and submit an application form on line located at https://fms2018-stage.afpbusiness.net/admissions/apply/ . Questions can be answered by contacting the Admissions Department at Admissions@Fishburne.org or calling 800.946.7773.
- MAKE YOUR CASE – Applicants are required to submit a typed or handwritten essay in black ink pertaining to why they should be afforded the distinction of this scholarship. Specifically the essay should highlight leadership experience, community involvement and why the applicant desires to attend Fishburne Military School.
- SEND YOUR TRANSCRIPTS – Applicants are required to obtain official school record transcripts and mail them in a sealed envelope. If the envelope has been opened, the transcripts are no longer considered official.
- SEND YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS – Applicants will submit two Letters of Recommendation. One should be authored by a previous or current English instructor and the second from a previous or current Math instructor. Letters of Recommendation should describe the student’s scholastic aptitude, behavior and service to the community. Both Letters of Recommendation must be mailed directly to Fishburne Military School’s Admission Department at the address above.

WHAT ARE THE DEADLINES FOR APPLICATIONS?
- All application materials must be received by 24 June 2017 for Fall applicants.
- Fishburne Military School will schedule interviews for prospective recipients prior to 29 July 2017.
- Written notification will be mailed to applicants no later than 11 August 2017.
HOW WILL LEADERSHIP FOR LIFE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS BE CHOSEN?
- Candidate applications will be evaluated by a Leadership for Life Scholarship Panel consisting of the Admissions Officer, Headmaster and selected faculty and staff members. The selection criteria will be predicated upon the following:
- Academic achievement as evidenced by scholastic accomplishment and official transcript GPA. The minimum requirement for submission is a 3.0 GPA or equivalent for rising 9th
- Participation in school or club leadership activities and community service as described in the applicant’s essay.
- Communication skills demonstrated in application essay and during on site interview conducted by Leadership for Life Scholarship panel.
- The strength of the recommendation submitted by applicant’s English and Math teachers.
- After deliberation, the Leadership for Life Scholarship panel will select and subsequently notify winners in writing and thank those not selected for their participation. Winners will be provided instructions to confirm their acceptance of the scholarship and the guidelines to sustain it through their time at Fishburne Military School.
