John Rorke ’01 Named Veteran of the Week
Oklahoma City, OK — John Rorke, Fishburne Military School Class of 2001, received a standing ovation on Monday as the Oklahoma House of Representatives honored him as their Veteran of the Week. John served two tours in Iraq, returned home to finish his B.A. at Oklahoma State University, and went on to earn a M.S.W. from Arizona State.

Fishburne Military School’s Varsity Baseball defeated Eastern Mennonite 11-1 on Tuesday thanks in part to Wally Harris, who drove in four Fishburne Military School (Waynesboro, VA) Baseballrunners. Harris drove in runs on a double in the first and a double in the fifth. Fishburne Military School took the lead for good with four runs in the fifth inning.

Zane McCranie (Lake City, FL) scored the team best with a 40 which is one point below his last game and doing so on an unfamiliar course. Garrett Venn (Staunton, VA) and Tyler Long (Beavercreek, OH) scored their personal worst with 57 and 59, respectively. Blake Seydel (Woodbridge, VA) fared little better with a 60.

Despite the intense competition from D-1 programs, a number of FMS Cadets Jason Bruinius (Charlotte, NC), Elijah Jackson (Warsaw, VA), Garrett Rose (Columbus, IN), and Douglas Marsh (Middlebrook, VA) brought home a victory in the 4 x 800 relay. Marsh brought back an additional 1st-place finish in the 800.

The Caissons started strong amidst the downpour with goals from Bobby Palermo (Huntingtown, MD) and Sam Wickstrom (Chester, VA). Additionally, Caisson goalie David Eldredge (Carver, MA) made several key stops to keep the Caissons tight upon their opponents’ heels. Zachariah Moss (Culpeper, VA) scored a buzzer beater in the final seconds.

Six Cadets from Fishburne Military School made a very special trip to the Thomas D. Howe Memorial Armory in Staunton, VA last week at the request of Congressman Bob Goodlatte. The Cadets were there to help Congressman Goodlatte offer a long-overdue thank-you and welcome home to the Shenandoah Valley’s Vietnam Veterans.
