Fishburne Military School BC Earns Leadership Award from DC Federation of Civic Associations
Fishburne Military School’s Battalion Commander, Cadet Brian Draper (Washington, DC) was named as this year’s recipient of the George H. Richardson “Outstanding Leadership in the Field of Civil Rights Award,” by the DC Federation of Civic Associations (DCFCA). The announcement came as part of the Association’s 85th Annual Awards Celebration and Scholarship Luncheon.

Last Spring the Athletic Directors of Hargrave Military Academy, Fishburne Military School, Massanutten Military Academy, and Randolph-Macon Academy wanted to start a football conference for their military schools and the Patriot Military School Conference was born. The Caissons were able to sweep the conference’s first season after defeating Hargrave 42-0 at home on Friday afternoon.

The Cadets were welcomed into the Honor Society with a speech by John Noonan, FMS ’99. Noonan graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and is currently Foreign Policy Advisor to the Jeb Bush presidential campaign, has served as Policy Director of the Foreign Policy Initiative, as former advisor to Gov. Mitt Romney and as a writer for the Weekly Standard.

The 0-2 start to the 2015 Fishburne Military School football season didn’t concern first-year head coach Chip Hill. The late start to training camp and the issues with weather limiting practice time put the Caissons behind schedule, and FMS opened with two opponents – Fuqua and Roanoke Catholic – that are expected to compete for state playoff bids.

Carlisle defended its recent number one ranking with a 7-0 win over the Caissons, giving the Caissons another loss in the very tough VIC Conference.

The Fishburne Military School Raiders, Captained by Hunter Wren-Russ (a junior from Calabasas, CA) earned enough points on the day for a 2nd place overall finish. The Caissons, however, withdrew their team from consideration for trophies. “It’s just the right thing to do,” explained Raiders Coach, MSgt William Morton USA(Ret), citing the significant advantages a home-team has in Raider competitions.

Along with earning certificates for completing ALISON ABC-IT, students taking advanced technology classes at Fishburne Military School study for and work toward passing the CompTIA A+ Certification (which is a qualifier for entry-level employment in the IT field). More advanced Cadets can earn a non-credit certificate of completion from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
