The Fishburne Military School postgrad basketball team hadn’t played in a week. “Guys were getting tired of beating up on each other in practice,” said assistant coach Aaron Drakeford after the Caissons’ 94-62 win over Virginia Western on Sunday in Waynesboro, Va.

This marked the first time in 12 years the Caissons had hosted the Conference Championships and the Alumni Memorial Gymnasium was booming. The day was dominated primarily by three schools, LCA, FMS and Roanoke Catholic. It was the Caissons and the Bulldogs, however, that pulled far beyond the rest of the pack.

The Caissons did as expected and beat the Gaels of Holy Cross on Thursday night in Lynchburg, but it was not the game anyone thought it would be after Fishburne won by 31 at home last month.

Cadet Sutton C. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Jones from Knoxville, TN, was honored before the assembled Corps of Cadets today at Fishburne Military School. Jones was selected as this year’s winner of the Staunton Rotary Club’s Code of Ethics Award.

Hargrave had a 10-point lead with 5:17 to go. Fishburne had Jordon Talley. Talley had a hand in 16 FMS points in the final 5:17, and the Caissons closed out the Tigers on a 21-5 scoring run to take a 101-95 win in a matchup of two national Top 5 teams Tuesday night in Waynesboro, Va.

In 2008, Mario Woodard made the first Michael’s Ride from Fishburne Military School to Richmond, VA in order to raise funds needed to establish the Michael Woodard Memorial Scholarship. Since that time, the event has grown and evolved into an annual family-friendly event.
