Monday evening, drill teams and staff at Fishburne Military School traveled to downtown Staunton for their annual participation in the Staunton Christmas parade. For many years Fishburne has maintained its presence in the public eye through participation in parades and ceremonies such as the Staunton Veterans day parade and Christmas parade.

It was a small sample size, admittedly, but through three games, two of them ugly losses, and a stretch that saw Virginia average 54 points per contest, it was looking like a lost season in the making for Coach Tony Bennett. Enter Teven Jones, a redshirt freshman from Fishburne Military School, who had to sit out the opener, a 63-59 loss to George Mason, for an undisclosed violation of team rules, then Virginia’s split of its first two games in the Preseason NIT with a pinched nerve that had threatened to put him on the shelf for an extended period of time.

St. Thomas More and Fishburne traded blows for 40 minutes before Kuran Iverson would drill a step-back three-pointer to force overtime, but More took control in the extra period to pull out the 85-76 upset of the third-ranked Caissons in the National Prep Showcase on Saturday.
