Swim Update
Last night our guys swam against three other teams: North Cross, VES, and Northside HS. It was a very large meet and many of our guys first experience with a tournament. I was very impressed with our guys, as they dropped considerable time on their events. Tim Moriconi dropped 7 seconds on his 100 back and Alex Burkard dropped nearly 45 seconds on his 500 free. Will Johnstone placed second overall in the 50 free, earning first place finishes in two of the meets. Tim Moriconi got first place finishes in both the 100 fly and the 100 back against VES. Anthony Barton placed first in the 100 free against Northside. Against Northside we had two 1-2 finishes earning us lots of points: Will Johnstone and Julain MathewsWall in the 100 breast and Tim Moriconi and Gabriel Sun in the 100 back. The final scores were: NCS 63, FMS 28; VES 52, FMS 35; and FMS 49, NHS 41. Our record is now 1-3. Our next match is at home against Massanutten in January and will be the first meet in our beautifully renovated pool.

Having our first meet against the conference champions is always intimidating, especially this year as our two best swimmers weren’t able to attend the meet, but our guys didn’t let Hargrave get them down and we had some very strong performances. Tim Moriconi rocked the 500 free taking first place by 15 seconds. Gabriel Sun was a surprise power house placing third in both the 50 free and the 100 free. Julian Mathews-Wall stepped up for the team and swam the 200 IM despite getting in the water for the first time since last season only the day before the meet. The team really pushed themselves and did their best, which is everything a coach could ask for.
