During my two years, I played the game and did well. Upon graduation I was accepted by The Virginia Military Institute, The Citadel, and The University of North Carolina. I was also nominated by Congressman Earl Ruth of the North Carolina 8th District to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. My father persuaded me to attend UNC as he had done. (He later told me that was his worse mistake in my development.) I went to Chapel Hill.

As many of you may have heard, Colonel Jim Donnelly, USAF (Ret) has accepted a leadership position with another firm here in Waynesboro. While we are extremely saddened at the thought of Jim no longer being with us here at Fishburne, we are proud of him and thankful for all the years of dedicated service to the School. Colonel Donnelly gave fourteen years of outstanding service to FMS while working as a teacher, coach and as Fishburne’s Business Manager. He worked tirelessly to make sure our School’s day-to-day operations functioned properly. Colonel Donnelly has been a tremendous asset to the School, and we will miss him very much. We wish Jim the best of luck and much success in his new endeavor.

Fishburne is almost set to make its second appearance in the Capital Area Football Conference Championship game after downing Fredericksburg Christian 42-25 on Friday afternoon.
The win ties the Eagles and Caissons for second with one loss in the conference each, but Fishburne holds the tiebreaker. Next week, Fredericksburg will play at No. 1 Massanutten. If the Eagles fall to MMA, Fishburne will clinch the No. 2 spot and earn a spot in the title game. If the Eagles win, there will be a three-way tie for first.

This was the homecoming game for Hyde, so their team and fans were jacked up for this game.

My cousins all attended Fairfax Hall, and I recall being impressed by the Fishburne cadets I would see occasionally downtown at the Wayne Theatre, the Fishburne Drug Store, or marching on the drill field. I don’t know what exactly sparked me as a ten-year old to attend FMS, but it happened to me none the less. I had never talked to a cadet or recall even seeing one outside of Waynesboro, but for the next three years, I was relentless in my pursuit to convince my parents to let me become a cadet.
