2009 Cross Country Season Final Meet

On a blustery and soggy Friday (Nov. 13th) afternoon, the cross country team competed in the VISAA State Championship at Woodberry Forest School.

The race was on a rather treacherous and sloppy course due to all of the rain and mud, and several runners fell because of the slippery conditions.  Colin Turnnidge earned all-state honors with a 19th-place finish (top 20 were all-state) in a time of 19:15.

Alex Burkard was 58th, Travis Knapp 63rd, James Park 117th, Jacob Cochran 172nd, and Connor Smith 187th.

Fishburne was 13th out of 26 schools.

We were a little disappointed because one of our goals was for everyone to run their best time of the year, but the course and conditions didn’t allow it.

This follows a 5th out of 12 finish in the VIC Conference Meet.

Our top five runners consist of one 8th grader, two 9th graders, one sophomore and one junior.  Regrettably, we will lose one senior, Connor Smith, who has been an integral part of the cross country program for the past four years.  He will be missed.
