Fishburne Military School #1 Ranked Wrestler Takes 2nd in Lynchburg

Farrar Leads Caisson Grapplers at LCA Tourney

(Jan. 5-6, Lynchburg, VA) — Senior Cadet Matthew Farrar improved his record to 17-2 at Liberty Christian’s tournament this past weekend. He opened the tournament with two quick pins, earning a trip to the semifinals. Farrar got a major decision over a wrestler from Staunton River. Fishburne Coach Terry Waters commented, “That semifinal match was a tough bout. We told Mathew not to muscle [his opponent] as he was a very strong young man.” Matthew listened to his coach and won the match on technique and guts. Farrar then dropped the championship match to the 5A state runner up from EV High School. Mathew’s only other loss of the season was to a 4A state Champion. Senior Cadet Jacob Fincham battled his way back after an opening round lost to claim 8th place.

“This is a very good and competitive tournament,” said Waters, “we only took 5 wrestlers since we had just returned to campus and wanted to get the younger kids ready for the conference opener on Tuesday.”

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
