FMS NewsFishburne families gathered on campus Saturday (16 Feb) to visit with their cadets, engage in parent/teacher conferences and to celebrate the achievements of the 1st semester. This winter version of Parents’ Weekend was developed several years ago as a measure of alleviating the “Dark Ages” blues.
For the parents of many mid-term matriculants, this February gathering also offers an all-important opportunity to have their first face-to-face meetings with their sons’ instructors. For Cadets, it is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments (academic, military and athletic) of the first semester and to present awards and promotions.
With Wrestling and Swimming teams at the State tournaments, 54 students earning a place on the
Distinguished Honor Roll (3.5 GPA or better), Basketball teams going into their Conference Tournaments, JROTC and Drill Teams piling up trophies and attrition at it lowest level in memory there was no shortage of things to commemorate and celebrate.
During the Corps Review, Jeehyun Battalion Commander Jung, son of Dr. Hak Jung of Seoul, South Korea, was promoted to Cadet Colonel in recognition of his leadership skills.
“This has been a magnificent weekend,” noted FMS Superintendent COL Gary R. Morrison, VA, FMS ’81, “I heard constant positive comments about various faculty, TACs, nurses, coaches and other staff. This is not easy work, and it requires extreme patience and positivity. Our Fishburne team has come through this year in a huge way! This has been a great chance to celebrate that along with the achievements of our young men.”
