The FMS Caissons Football recruits for the 2018 season reported to campus on August 15th and got into full pads this morning for drills as new Head Coach Tom Goforth began the busy work of teaching them his system. Although a number of schools in Virginia have been forced to drop their football programs or adapt their squads to an 8-man game due to falling numbers of players, the Caissons of Fishburne Military School reported a healthy turn-out of nearly 30 players and will maintain a traditional 11-man football team.

Members of the FMS Soccer and Cross Country Teams along with the Cadet Leadership Training Detail returned to barracks on Monday 20 August and wasted little time in getting prepared for the new school year.
Over 60 Cadets have taken their place in the ranks of the 2018 Training Detail. These TDs, as they are known on FMS Campus, will be spending the next several days shaking the rust off of their drill and ceremony skills while participating in lectures, classes and labs focused on the fundamentals of Leadership and motivation.
Fishburne Superintendent, CAPTAIN Mark E. Black, US Navy (Ret.), addressed the TDs this morning and carefully laid out Fishburne Military School’s expectations for Cadet Leaders. “We want to teach you young men how to help each other, how to lift each other up and how to motivate one another towards success,” Black told the group assembled in Lawton Chapel. “Cadet Leaders must be servant-leaders…you must commit to serving one another and commit to pushing yourself ever forward.”

when they report to campus this weekend and take up the challenge of becoming a Fishburne Man. The 2018-2019 Corps of Cadets will face some important milestones in the coming months with 2019 ushering in the 100th anniversary of US Army JROTC at FMS and with US Army Cadet Command scheduled to conduct their regular JROTC Progam Assessment (JPA) in April. The JPA is Cadet Command’s tool for evaluating and designating individual units and the Cadets at FMS are already focused on retaining their status as an official Honor Unit With Distinction.
“This Corps,” notes Senior Army Instructor, LTC Robert Hunt, US Army (Ret,), “is already beginning to shape up as one of our finer groups. Although we’ve got a lot of work ahead, I have full faith and confidence that these young men will be equal to the task of earning a continued Honor Unit With Distinction rating.”

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
