The Boys are Back in Town!!
The Corps of Cadets at Fishburne Military School has been gradually returning to Waynesboro throughout the month of August. Beginning with Cadet Leaders returning early for Sen. Tim Kaine’s visit on 15 August and continuing on with Soccer camp, Football camp, PG Basketball, New Cadets until, at last, on Monday 26th, the Old Men made their way back to barracks.
According to FMS Athletics Director, MSG Mike Anson USAF(RET), both the Soccer and Football camps enjoyed a record turnout this year.
“Turnout for camp is one important factor contributing toward a successful season,” Anson pointed out. We had about 39 in football camp and 22 for soccer, which ranks among our best turnouts in the past decade. I think we’ll have a great year as long as we can minimize injuries and keep up the effort and focus that we’re seeing right now on the practice fields.”
Football Coach and FMS Guidance Director, MAJ Dan Baranik (VA), was also cautiously optimistic about the upcoming school year. “It’s early but I’m encouraged with the quality of the kids and their effort to this point,” Baranik said.
As coaches and their players begin preparing their starting lineups, the FMS JROTC Department is hard at work helping the 34 Cadet Leaders organize the Corps of Cadets while planning leadership development exercises and activities for the year ahead.
“Everyone on campus is fired up and ready to ring in a school year that we all know is going to be an exceptional one,” noted Superintendent COL Gary Morrison (VA). “The 2013-2014 Corps of Cadets is robust, motivated and ready to get on with their work. We’re on the verge of something that’s going to be a joy to behold.”
