Mo Sallah inks NLI with Mount St. Mary’s
Mo Sallah came to the U.S. from his native Gambia four years ago as a soccer player never having played basketball. The 6’8”, 205-pounder at Fishburne Military School is now a Division I recruit, signing his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday with Mount St. Mary’s.
Sallah played high-school basketball in the Hagerstown, Md., area, and felt at home in Emmittsburg at Mount St. Mary’s.
“Everything was just great. I went on a visit, and the playing style, the coaches, the players, the environment, it’s all just the right fit for me. I felt a part of the community as soon as I stepped on the campus,” Sallah said.
His guardian, Louie Reid, an assistant coach at his high school, Broadfording Christian, was on hand to watch Sallah sign on the bottom line.
“It’s a great day. Mo came over from West Africa, had never played basketball in his life. He’s been playing for four years now. One of his goals was to make it to Division I. Hopefully he will get his education, do well in business, and be successful in life just in general,” Reid said.
FMS coach Ed Huckaby thinks Mount St. Mary’s got a steal in landing Sallah.
“People who watch him there are going to be surprised that he landed there. He’s a talented player. Mount St. Mary’s did a great job signing him,” Huckaby said.
