Jackson Trapp: Taking it to the next level

Jackson Trapp was a cornerstone of the in-progress building effort at Fishburne Military School. Now the 6’4″, 185-pound guard from Orlando is headed to Florida Atlantic to be part of the rebuilding of that program under coach Mike Jarvis.

Trapp will join FMS teammate Chris Bryant at FAU, which struggled to an 11-19 finish in 2011-2012. Trapp and Bryant form the nucleus of a strong incoming class that Jarvis hopes can get things turned around in a hurry.

“If you’re going to ask me what my style of play is, 90 percent of the time, it usually has been: winning,” Jarvis said. “What I do is, I take what I have, and I fit our team around what I have.”

With Trapp, what Jarvis will get is a shooting guard with deadeye accuracy who learned in baptism-by-fire mode how to play point guard at Fishburne. Trapp began the 2011-2012 season as the starting shooting guard for coach Mike Huckaby, but was pressed into action at the one after Teven Jones left the program midseason to join the basketball team at the University of Virginia.

“It did a lot for me overall,” Trapp said of the experience.

Trapp attributes his season at Fishburne with taking his game to a new level.

It’s obviously a lot of discipline being at a military school. I worked hard all season. Coach Huckaby taught me a lot of discipline on the court and off the court. I learned a lot here, playing with so many D1 players. We had great talent there, so it made me a better player,” Trapp said.
