How I Spent My Summer Vacation
By Susan Johnson
We learned how “To Build a Fire” (Jack London) and we trudged “A Worn Path” (Eudora Weltz). We met “Dr. Heidegger” (Nathaniel Hawthorne), “The Devil and Tom Walker” (Washington Irving) and “The Devil and Daniel Webster” (Steven Vincent Benét).
On July 4th, we saluted “The Gettysburg Address”, (Abraham Lincoln) and we visited “The Raven” (Edgar Allen Poe). We laughed at Mark Twain’s “Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” and his “Baker’s Blue Jay Yarn.”
We attended “The Sculptor’s Funeral” (Willa Cather) and we sat in “The Catbird Seat” (James Thurber).
When it turned hot and humid we chilled with Robert Frost.
It is now time to take “Flight” (John Steinbeck) and pursue our “Winter Dreams” (F. Scott Fitzgerald).
It was a great trip!
