FMS Guidance Hosts Career Fair
Fishburne Military School Invites Local Professionals to Address Cadets
Waynesboro, VA — Fishburne Military School’s Department of Guidance and College Counseling hosted its annual Career Fair at FMS. Local professionals from a variety of disciplines were invited to campus to meet with small groups of interested Cadets.
Professions represented at this year’s Career Fair ranged from Engineers, Film Producers, Journalists, and Scientists to Law Enforcement and the Military.
“It’s incredibly important,” noted FMS Guidance Director, Mr. Cedrick Broadhurst, “for these young men to have an opportunity to explore different types of careers and fields of study. This week, Cadets heard presentations from each speaker and then engaged in very active question-and-answer sessions. The object is to help spark interest in academics by demonstrating to our young men that every career path requires some form of specialized training or education.”
A major point of instruction for each speaker involved tracing the educational path that led to their individual professional successes.
For those Cadets who remain unsure of their career interests, Mrs. Sara Greene, Assistant Director of the University of Virginia’s Career Center, was available to discuss a variety of career-related topics, such as choosing a college major, choosing a career path, and searching for internships and full-time jobs.
Speakers utilized various classrooms and conference rooms throughout the Fishburne Military School campus and Cadets from all classes were encouraged to take part in more than one session.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
