FMS Golf Ranked in Top 5 in State
Word came this week that the Fishburne Military School golf team is now ranked among the top five teams in Virginia. This top-5 ranking is the best of any varsity sport at Fishburne within the past 20 years, according to the FMS Athletic Director, Msgt Mike Anson.
“I know these guys are under-the-radar due to the nature and remoteness of the game, but that’s a rather impressive accomplishment,” Anson noted.
On Tuesday, the Caissons lost a close match to both LCA and Blue Ridge, two power-house schools in golf. Nick Fedchock continued his winning streak by shooting a two over 38 followed by Matthew Manos with a 41. Reid D’Amico came in with a 52 and Foster Evans shot a 54. Team scores were LCA 179, Blue Ridge 181 and FMS 185. “It’s very encouraging to know that we very well could have won the tournament despite playing below our standard,” remarked FMS Golf Coach, Patrick Shiflett.
Yesterday, the Caissons came out motivated against Stuart Hall. Matthew Manos, an 8th grader, won the tournament shooting an even par 36. “Shooting par is hard to do at any age, but as an 8th grader, its phenomenal”, Shiflett said. Nick Fedchock was off his game a little coming in with a score of 40. Reid D’Amico stepped up and came in with a solid score of 43, his best of the season. Foster Evans shot a respectable 48 rounding out the top score. Final score was FMS 167 (lowest score of the year) and Stuart Hall 189. Next match is Tuesday at Miller School (Old Trail) with Hargrave.
