Fishburne Raiders Finish Strong at Best of the Best

Ridgeway, VA — The Fishburne Military School Raiders made their way to Magna Vista High School this weekend to go head to head with the toughest Raider units in USFishburne Military School Raiders Proud to Be Named Among Best of the Best Again Army JROTC’s 4th Brigade at the annual “Best of the Best” competition.

4th Brigade is comprised of 318 schools and over 3000 cadets representing JROTC units from 5 states and the District of Columbia. Only 20 units earn a place in Best of the Best. Of the 54 JROTC units in Virginia, only the top 6 programs earn a slot to compete for the title of “Best of the Best”.

Fishburne Military School Raiders Proud to Be Named Among Best of the Best AgainThe competition consisted of a Fitness Test, One-Rope Bridge, 5-km Road March, Litter Carry, and a Logistic Relay consisting of a HUMVEE pull, tire flip, water/ammo can carry and fireman carry. Overall, the Fishburne Military School Raiders placed 9th and recorded the 3rd best finish of the 6 Virginia schools who earned an invitation.

“We are extremely proud of the effort and determination our young men have put into the Fishburne Raiders this season. Just earning a spot in this competition is an incredible achievement for a school of our size, but to Fishburne Military School Raiders Proud to Be Named Among Best of the Best Againplace as well as they did is a tremendous testament to their hard work,” noted LTC Robert Hunt, Senior Army Instructor at Fishburne Military School.

The Caissons finished 14th in Fitness, 15th in the 5K, 11th in rope bridge, 5th in litter carry and 5th in the Logistics relay.


Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies.
