Track and Field Looking Strong at Riverheads

The Fishburne Military School (VA) Track and Field Team put forth a strong showing at Riverheads High School in Staunton, VA, yesterday. The distance runners gave the Caissons the most points in the meet. Hunter Jennings (senior; Riva, MD) took first place in the 1600m race with a time of 5:14 and James Wright (senior; Seattle, WA) won the 3200m race with a time of 11:40. The distance runners also took second place in the 4x800m relay as Jennings and Wright joined Jacob Neufeld (senior; Tehachapi, CA) and Avery Romp (freshman; Westford, VT) to put in a time of 9:43. Neufeld also scored a third place finish in the 800m race with a time of 2:20 and Romp scored valuable team points with a fourth place finish in the 1600m race with a time of 5:36.
The sprinters also got in on the action with a third place finish in the 4x100m relay as Marcellus Brooks (sophomore; Woodbridge, VA), Tyler Long (sophomore; Beavercreek, OH), Ryan Jang (junior; Seoul, South Korea), and Zach McIntyre (senior; Bristow, VA) turned in a time of 51:50 in their first ever race together. Long also had a 52:30 time in the 300m hurdles; good enough for a fifth place finish and Brooks finished sixth in the 400m race with a time of 1:03.3.
Shaheen AlFarhan also scored team points for the Caissons in the Shot Put, with a distance of 34’1″; good enough for a sixth place finish. The Track and Field Team will be back in action with two meets the week of April 26. The first at Woodberry Forest in Orange, VA on April 28 and the second at RE Lee High School in Staunton, VA on April 30.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
