Raiders Take First at Buckingham Meet
Waynesboro, VA — This weekend, the Fishburne Military School Raider team, coached by MSG (R) Morton, deployed to Holiday Lake State Park near Buckingham HS. They had a 0430 wake-up and returned to Fishburne at 2100.
The Raider team competed as 2- four man teams, “A” team was led by Wren-Russ and the “B”team by Dixon. The FMS “A” team placed first overall. They won the Rope Bridge, Litter Carry, and Tire Flip. They were second in the PT Test, Bus Pull and 5K Road March.The “B” team placed third in the Rope Bridge. There were 7 high schools and 20 teams competing at the “Tip of the Arrow” meet.
The FMS Raiders have qualified for 4th Brigade’s “Best of the Best” competition for the past three consecutive years. The team is working toward their 4th appearance at the Brigade Championships. 4th Brigade consists of 318 schools throughout West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina and competition for the title of “Best of the Best” is stiff.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
