Waynesboro, VA — Each year, Fishburne Military School’s Headmaster and Guidance Director organize a Career Fair for the Corps of Cadets. The fair, which brings local business people and community leaders onto campus for a series of informal presentations regarding their careers, has become increasing popular with Cadets over the years.

This year’s FMS Career Fair kicked off yesterday with presentations concerning careers in Computer Analysis, Law, Business Finance, and Forestry/Agriculture. “This is a great opportunity,” notes Superintendent, COL Gary Morrison (VA), “for Fishburne Military School to better serve our Cadets’ needs. This fair gives us the opportunity to discuss not only the importance of a quality education but also the practical aspects of selecting a course of study or school that fits with the students’ ambitions. The Cadets are getting real world advice and real world perspectives from those who they may want to emulate.”

More than 35 Cadets took part in yesterday’s presentations and an equal number are expected to participate in days 2 & 3 of the FMS Career Fair. Upcoming presentations will deal with Cadet questions regarding careers in Health Sciences, Physical Therapy, Entrepreneurialism, Sports Management, Military Service, City Planning and Government, as well as Law Enforcement.

“It’s important,” notes Admissions Director, Cedrick Broadhurst, “for our young men to have access to professionals in fields like these. Preparing young men for college, and for life, means doing more for them than just lecturing in a classroom. We try to open as many doors as we can for our boys and these fairs do a great job of giving them a look at what life after Fishburne can hold for them.”

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
