Fishburne Military School Announces Dec/Jan Cadet Awards

Waynesboro, Virginia – Fishburne Military School’s Cadet Leadership has announced the results of their most recent Honor Board to determine Cadet awards for December and January.

Cadet William Hicks ’17 (Sandstone, Virginia), son of Ms. Amber Halterman, was named Cadet of the Month for December. Cadets earning this award enjoy: One 3-Day Weekend Pass, one Special Dinner, ten Commandant Merits, and the right to wear the Cadet of Month shoulder-cord.

Cadet Captain Jacob Neufeld ’15, (Tehachapi, California), son of Mr. and Mrs. David Neufeld, earned the honor of Officer of the Month for January. Cadets earning this award enjoy: 10 Superintendent Merits, 10 Commandant Merits, one special meal and one Four Day Pass from 1830 Thursday to 1900 Monday.

Cadet Staff Sergeant John Shane ’15, (Vernon, Connecticut), son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Shane, was named as Non-Commissioned Officer of the Month for January. Cadets earning this award enjoy: 10 Superintendent Merits, 10 Commandant Merits, one special meal and one Four Day Pass from 1830 Thursday to 1900 Monday.

Recipients of these Cadet awards are nominated by their peers from within each company and then selected by an Honor Board of Cadet Officers following a series of questions designed to test each nominee’s knowledge of Fishburne and American History, US Government, and JROTC History and Protocol. Those named Cadet of the Month, upon completion of their RAT (recruit at training) status, will be promoted by one rank.

“These young men,” noted FMS Superintendent, COL Gary Morrison (VA), FMS ’81, “represent the best that Fishburne Military School has to offer. The have excelled Academically, Athletically and Militarily. These Cadets bring great honor to themselves, their families and their Corps.”

 

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
