Fishburne Military School Raiders Eye “Best of the Best”

Fishburne Military School JROTC Raiders took 3rd and 5th place out of the 30 schools competing at Manchester High School's Raider meetMidlothian, VA – The Fishburne Military School Raiders Teams traveled to Manchester High School on Saturday for a Raider Meet in the run up to 4th Brigade’s Best of the Best competition next month.

The day-long event featured a 5K road march, a physical fitness test, a one-rope bridge race, a litter carry and a fireman carry. Fishburne’s Raiders finished first in the fitness test and in the top five of all other events. Cadet Tyler Long (senior; Beavercreek, OH) led the way for Fishburne Military School by taking 1st place in the mile run and 1st place overall in the fitness test competition. Cadet Zachary Smithley (senior; Wilmington, NC) contributed to the team’s Physical Training victory by taking 1st place in push-ups.

The Fishburne Military School Raiders A-Team was commanded by Cadet Hunter Wren-Russ (senior; Tehachapi, CA) and the B-Team was commanded by Cadet Jacob Randall (senior; Stafford, VA).

Fishburne Military School’s Raiders have been a force to be reckoned with for years now and are hoping to top off another stellar season by bringing home the title of “Best of the Best”. In Virginia, there are 54 JROTC units within the 4th Brigade and only the top 6 programs earn a slot to compete for the title of “Best of the Best”. Fishburne earned their slot in November and has steadily been ramping up their training in anticipation of the Fishburne Military School JROTC Raiders took 3rd and 5th place out of the 30 schools competing at Manchester High School's Raider meetintense competition.

The Fishburne Raiders will have one more opportunity to for a Best of the Best warm-up as they travel to Orange County High School on April 1st. Magna Vista High School in Ridgeway, Virginia will host this year’s Best of the Best meet on April 22.

The Fishburne Military School Corps of Cadets is included in the United States Army JROTC Cadet Command’s 4th Brigade which is headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and is comprised of 318 Army JROTC programs in West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and the District of Columbia.


Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies.
