Fishburne Military School NHS Taps Inductees for 2013-2014
Waynesboro, Virginia. September 30, 2013
At the beginning of each school year, members of the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society “tap” new inductees, who will become members during a ceremony held on the first day of the annual Parents’ Military Weekend. Membership in NHS/NJHS is offered to students who have met the highest standards in Academics, Leadership, Character and Service while at FMS.
The initial requirement for membership in NHS/NJHS is a 3.5 weighted Grade Point Average (GPA). A candidate must have also been at FMS for one full school year. When these requirements have been met, the selection committee, comprised of Department Heads, reviews each candidate’s qualifications under the remaining standards.
The “tapping” is a time-honored tradition at many private and public institutions, wherein the candidates’ names are kept secret until the time they receive their invitation. At FMS, incumbent members present the invitations in the presence of peers and teachers during the first class period. Parents are then notified of their son’s invitation.
Inductees to the National Honor Society for the 2013-2014 school year include: Woonjo Ahn ’14, Sherard
Box ’15, Jacob Cochran ’14, Nicholas Craan ’14, Reid D’Amico ’15, and Devin Soulsby ’15. Inductees to the National Junior Honor Society for the 2013-2014 school year include: Thomas Fosdick ’17, Jacob Randall ’17 and Hunter Wren-Russ ’17.
The induction ceremony will be conducted on Friday, October 18, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, as a part of the Parents’ Military Weekend festivities. Alumnus, Edward Curt ’09, a member of National Honor Society while at FMS, will be the guest speaker.
