Fishburne Military School Names Terry Waters as Coach of the Year
Terry Waters Named Coach of Year at Fishburne Military School
Waynesboro, VA — During Fishburne Military School’s Spring Athletics Awards banquet, Wrestling Coach, Terry Waters, was named as the Master Sergeant Michael Anson Caissons Coach of the year for 2016-2017.
In just his second year at Fishburne, Coach Waters and his wrestlers brought home a state championship in Wrestling. Coach Waters was also honored at the VISAA State tournament with their coach of the year award.
Fishburne Military School Athletics Director, MAJ Brian Greene (VA) noted that “Coach Waters continues to have a passion for the sport and truly cares for all his athletes.”
Waters is widely regarded as a coaching legend in the state of Virginia. A native of Pennsylvania, Waters was one of the first black students to integrate the famed Milton-Hershey High School where he was a three-sport athlete. He went on to wrestle at the University of Nebraska and Lincoln University.
Just a few stops in his coaching career include Fort Defiance, Riverheads, Washington and Lee University, and the US Junior Olympic team. He has coached several All-Conference, All-District, All-State, All-American wrestlers, as well as Olympians.
The MSG Michael Anson Caissons Coach of the Year Award was instituted in 2014 to recognize the coach who is viewed by their peers as being an advocate of the student-athlete; taking not only their team’s success into consideration, but also their commitment to their athletes’ success outside of athletics. A plaque in the Fishburne Military School foyer permanently displays the names of recipients.
The award is named for MSG Michael Anson, USAF (Ret) who received his BS in Science from New York State University and served as Athletic Director here at FMS for 12 years. A lifelong fan of fitness, athletics, and all things West Virginia, MSG Anson continues to serve the school as Asst. Headmaster, Science teacher, Science Dept. Chair, and the head Track & Field coach.
