Fishburne Military School Lacrosse Takes Three to Start Season
Waynesboro, VA – The Fishburne Military School Caissons Lacrosse team kicked off a busy and promising week last Tuesday when they traveled to Woodstock, VA to face Massanutten Military Academy. On a cool, breezy afternoon, Fishburne Military School came out on top, winning 10-1.
Scoring for the Caissons were Attack-Captain Bobby Palermo (Huntingtown, MD) with four goals, Midfield-Captain James Gallagher (Copiague, NY) with three, attackman Bryson Overton (Sanford, NC) with one, and midfielders Adam Bowles (Sewickley, PA) and Christian Towler (Waynesboro, VA) each with one as well. Goalie Connor Green (Virginia Beach, VA) saved three. The Caissons were commended by the referees on their classiness.
The Caissons next hosted two local regional lacrosse clubs at Anderson Field on a warm, breezy afternoon this past Friday. A large audience turned out to attend the FMS Lacrosse Jamboree. Each team played each other in three exhibitions, consisting of two-quarters each.
In the first match, Fishburne’s JV squad faced local JV club Augusta Wolves, winning 7-2. Scoring were attackmen Adam Bowles with four, Thomas Vallenta (Great Falls, VA) with two, and Bryson Overton with one. Goalie Stacy Wood (Waynesboro, VA) saved nine in a personal best-performance yet. In the second match, Rockingham MudDogs’ JV squad faced Augusta, winning 4-1. In the third match, Fishburne’s Varsity squad faced Rockingham’s Varsity, winning 4-3. All four of the Caissons’ goals were struck by Attack-Captain Bobby Palermo. Goalie Connor Green saved four.
The Caissons were commended by the event organizer, US Lacrosse’s Nicholas Mihailoff, on their exemplary sportsmanship.
The Fishburne Military School JV Lacrosse team travels to nearby Stuarts Draft on Tuesday (10 April) to play Augusta Wolves in a full match. Varsity will host Massanutten Military Academy at Anderson Field on Thursday afternoon (12 April), marking their second meeting this season.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
