Fishburne Military School Comes Up Big at Huguenot Drill Meet
Richmond, VA — The Fishburne Military School Drill Teams and Color Guard started their day on Saturday with an 0445 wake-up followed by a 2-hour road trip to Richmond for the annual Huguenot Drill Meet.
Despite the early wake-up and long ride, the Caissons brought their A-game and were ready to roll when the reached the drill floor at Huguenot High School. Out of the 14 teams that participated in this year’s Huguenot drill meet, Fishburne’s Color Guard took first place in their event, Hudgins Rifles took first in Armed Exhibition Platoon and second in Armed Exhibition Squad, the Unarmed Regulation Platoon placed second, and Cadet Joseph Montoya (Norfolk, VA) placed third in the Individual Unarmed Knockout.
Fishburne Military School’s Color Guard Commander is Cadet David Eldredge of Carver, MA. Eldredge is a sophomore and has won both meets he has commanded this year.
Hudgins Rifles’ Commander for both Platoon and Squad events was Cadet Blake Seydel of Woodbridge, VA. Seydel is a senior and has placed first twice in Platoon as well as a first- and second-place in squad competition this year.
Unarmed Regulation Platoon was commanded by Cadet Connor Green, a junior from Virginia Beach, VA.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
