Fishburne Military School Cadets attend JCLC Eagle 2014

Twelve cadets from Fishburne Military School attended JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (Summer Camp) at the State Military Reservation at Virginia Beach, Virginia from 15-20 June 2014. Overall, 250 JROTC Cadets from 25 schools in Virginia and North Carolina participated in this year’s camp.
The cadets arrived at Fishburne on Saturday to prepare for the 3 ½ hour trip to Virginia Beach on Sunday morning. They arrived at camp around 1130 and started the in-processing and reported to their units. They established the barracks, attended a safety briefing and were briefed about the week’s training activities.
There were 17 different training events planned and executed during JCLC Eagle 2014.This is a very challenging camp with reveille at 0500 and the training day ending around 2200 each night. On the first day cadets undergo a physical training test consisting of a one mile run, pushups and curl-ups. Then they participated in a Field Leaders Reaction Course, Rope Bridge, First Aid and Litter Carry, Orienteering, Marksmanship, and Survival.
Over the next two days, cadets were trained on rappelling from a 60 feet tower, completed a very challenging obstacle course, were instructed in aquatics for small boats and poncho raft at a nearby lake, and they took on the Fort Eustis Army Leadership Reaction Course.
During the evening hours, they were trained on drown-proofing, CPR, and a Night Distance Azimuth course. On the fifth day, there was a platoon field day where the six platoons competed against each other in series of six teambuilding events which culminated with a Platoon Tug of War Championship. That evening, the platoons participated in a drill and ceremonies competition.
The final day of JCLC consisted of a closing ceremony recognizing the top platoons and cadets from JCLC Eagle 2014.
All of the Fishburne cadets attending did an outstanding job throughout the camp. These cadets will receive a cord, tab, ribbon and several certificates for their performance at JCLC Eagle 2014.
