Fishburne Military School Announces Summer Session Program and Dates
Waynesboro, VA – Fishburne Military School officially announced the dates for its newly expanded Summer Session program for 2017. The Summer Session at Fishburne Military School will be held June 24 – July 29 and boasts an expanded curriculum as well as new enrichment classes and activities for cadets.
Since first offering Summer Session in 1957, Fishburne Military School has continually expanded, enhanced and evolved the program in order to best suit the needs and learning styles of young men. “We’ve spent sixty years,” notes FMS Superintendent, Retired Navy Captain Mark E. Black, “developing a summer experience for young men that will keep them active, engaged and progressing academically. I think the 2017 Summer Session offers an effective strategy for young men to achieve all of these goals and make their summers more rewarding.”
In addition to the school’s regular slate of academic classes during the summer, Fishburne has added courses aimed more at “enrichment”.
Students attending Fishburne’s Summer Session will take either 1 new course (full-day), 2 repeat courses (half-day), 2 enrichment courses (half-day), or 1 enrichment and 1 repeat course (both half-day).
“The new Enrichment Classes,” explains FMS Admissions Director, Mr. Cedrick Broadhurst, “are classes that may not be required for graduation, but will provide the students with a stronger academic foundation, greater self-confidence and opportunities to gain leadership experience.”
Enrichment Classes offered during Fishburne Military School’s Summer Session are taught as half-day courses and include: Coding, Physical Education, Art, Driver’s Education, Outdoor Adventure as well as SAT-prep and Study Skills.
Fishburne Military School is one of only four schools in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command to offer summer JROTC courses for credit. Summer Cadets not taking a JROTC Class will still participate in JROTC adventure and confidence-building activities such as rappelling, drill & ceremony, orienteering, and building a one-rope bridge.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command. For more information visit www.fishburne.org.
