Fishburne Military School Names Top Cadets and Company for February

Waynesboro, VA — Fishburne Military School officially announced its monthly Cadet Awards winners for the month of February.

In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Dylan Bell, son of Ms. Heather Belcher, has been named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet of the Month

for February 2018. Bell, a senior from Staunton, VA, is in his third year at Fishburne Military School and is a member of the FMS Football and Baseball Teams.

The announcement, which reads in part: “Through outstanding performance of duty, Cadet Dylan Bell is hereby awarded Cadet of the Month … Your exemplary performance and dedication to duty is a testament to your deserving such and honor”, was made during a formation before the entire assembled Corps of Cadets.

In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Captain Derek Prestes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Prestes, was named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet Officer of the Month for February 2018. Prestes, a senior from Glen Allen, VA, is in his second year at Fishburne Military School.

Prestes serves as the Charlie Company Commander and is a key member of the FMS Soccer and Rifle Teams. Prestes’ personal leadership philosophy is relatively simple: “Do what you think is right. From there you can see what works and what doesn’t”, he explains. Prestes plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga next year to study Construction Management.

Upon hearing the announcement of his award, Prestes notes “I was excited, I already know what I’m going to do with that four-day pass! I’m going to go visit UT-C.”

Cadet award winners are selected by a board of Cadet Officers, and approved by the Commandant of Cadets. A Cadet award winner is selected based upon his academic, military and community achievements throughout the previous month.

a member of the Color Guard, and the FMS Key Club. In addition to being named to the Distinguished Honor Roll, Hurlbut is a key member of the FMS Lacrosse, Soccer and CyberPatriots teams.

Hurlbut hopes to attend UCLA, the University of Virginia or James Madison University to pursue a career in medicine.

“This was a awesome,” Hurlbut said in response to receiving this month’s award. “I’ve been working really hard; but, I want to thank my mom and dad. I want to tell them that I couldn’t do this without you and I love you. ”

In recognition of their teamwork, professionalism and overall bearing, Band Company has been designated as Company of the Month for February 2018 at Fishburne Military School.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
