Fishburne Basketball Tops Holy Cross
Recap by Coach Greene
Holy Cross Regional 45
Fishburne Military School 76
Fishburne jumped out to an early 23-10 lead in the first half and never looked back in their Friday afternoon game against Holy Cross. The Caissons were led by Robert Smith who had all 20 of his points in the first half. Kian Tate balanced the attack with 12 of his 14 points coming in the second half. Senior captain Hunter Couchot scored four 3 point baskets for 12 points while fellow senior captain Cederick Ross added 10 points. Thomas Beyene had 9 points as well as great defensive play. Isaiah Shaw and Garrison Grady had 5 and 2 points respectively. Antwan Brown continued to be a leader on the floor and added 4 points of his own. The Caissons have now won 3 games in a row and have improved to 6-4 (3-3 VIC). Fishburne’s Varsity team will take to their home floor again on Monday at 4:30 for a make-up game vs. Covenant and again Tuesday for a rematch against VIC leading North Cross (8-0 VIC).
Coach’s Comments:
We did not play as well on defnese as we did against Roanoke Catholic and EMHS but we did well enough to get this win. We have a very tough schedule coming up, as if the VIC is not difficult enough. We will have no practice before we play Covenant or North Cross and we will definitely have to step up our defensive effort, both individually and as a team, to beat those teams.
