Caisson Wrestlers Keep On Winning
Report from Coach C:
Last night saw the Caissons Wrestling team head down the street to face Grace Christian School and Waynesboro High School. The match up came to be called by a few names:
The War in Waynesboro
The Battle for the Boro
The Clash at Collins
Pick your favorite but in the end what the Caissons called it was VICTORY.
The team used one word REVENGE as many of the starters were on the team last year that lost 43-42 to Waynesboro in the Season Opening Little Giants Classic. That match sent WHS on to the Tournament Finals and the Caissons to the 5th place match.
Last night it looked like this:
FMS started out strong defeating Grace Christian with a final Score of 74 – 6 (just an inch away from being 80 – 0).
Then the Caissons took on the home-town rival Waynesboro High School.
Things started at 120 pounds and with Brian Farrell winning going into the 3rd period he was injured and was not able to go on so his match went to WHS for an early lead. BUT that would be the only lead of the night that they held. Lenardson took care of business and tied the score and then it was off to the races. It sounded like a home match at times with the guys chanting loudly for the Caissons wrestlers. The entire team stepped up BIG TIME and Fishburne walked out of Kate Collins Middle School leaving behind a Waynesboro team still wondering what hit them. The Final Score on the night WHS 24 FMS 60.
The whispers started as soon as we walked into the gym 33 wrestlers strong people were in awe to see such a huge team coming from FMS, something they are not used to, and as the night went on they saw that it was not just numbers but a hard working hard nosed team that walked in that gym with one thing on their mind, A VICTORY.
At the end of the night it was comments like “you all got it going on” and ” you have one heck of a team” you have some fine young men” “love the full team effort” Love the full team support for every wrestler”, and then one young man (younger brother of a Waynesboro HS Team member) jumping up and down telling his mom ( I served with her husband in Korea) yelling right in front of his brother ” I want to wrestle with them I want to go wrestle there pointing to me and the FMS Caisson Wrestling team. OH and by the way all the other comments came from Waynesboro fans. The one that is the best is when they say “you have a fine bunch of young men”. That one means the most as the team showed them what OUR Corps of Cadets is all about: A FINE BUNCH of YOUNG MEN. This is a great credit to every member of the FMS Family as we ALL take part in shaping them into fine young men. I just get the chance to pull them together and travel with them to wrestling matches and showcase what WE do here at our GREAT SCHOOL.
The Team record now stands at 14 – 1 (one win away from last year’s 15 wins)
Next match is on the road next week 22 Jan at Roanoke Catholic. This is a VIC showdown between the teams that finished 2nd and 3rd at the VIC Championship last season.
