Ten Cadets from Fishburne Military School returned on Monday from JROTC’s Cadet Leadership Camp (JCLC) at Ft. Pickett, Va. An invitation to JCLC, generally, indicates a Cadet has shown promise as an emerging leader within the Corps of Cadets, and those invited are often inspired to bring “their A-game”. This adds up to a week of highly motivated young people actively learning leadership skills and techniques from dedicated JROTC instructors in a dynamic, authentic, field-training environment.

The camp, organized and led by Fishburne’s JROTC department, attracted approximately 350 cadets from 27 schools (22 VA and 5 NC schools). “We have been rated the best camp in the 4th Brigade the past 5 years,” noted Fishburne Military School’s Senior Army Instructor, LTC Robert Hunt USA(Ret). “I am the S-3, and I plan and coordinate all the cadet training…We train from 0800-2200 daily, and training culminates with a field day. [MSG William “BAM”] Morton is in charge of Rappelling and Drownproofin; TOP, [1st Sergeant James Hensley USA(Ret)], is in charge of the Field Leadership Reaction Course and sets up the Orienteering courses for the camp.”

Throughout the course of JCLC week, Cadets are given hands-on instruction in: Rappelling, Obstacle and Reaction courses, One Rope

The week concludes with a Field Day which consists of: Tug of War, Modified PT Tests, Military Static Displays, Drill and Ceremonies, and Academic Bowl competition.
