Cadets march in Staunton Christmas Parade

Story by Andrew Simons and Nolan O’Conner

Cadets from Fishburne Military School marched Staunton’s streets in the largest Christmas Parade in the city of Staunton’s history. Paradegoers were entertained by the cadets along with 90-plus other organizations participating in the parade sponsored by the Staunton Downtown Development Association Monday evening.

The Battalion staff led the Fishburne cadets followed by the drill teams and six-man Color Guard. The band played a medley of its first Christmas songs of the year. Dressed in the traditional Fishburne tunics, the regulation drill team executed their drill using M1Garand rifles with outstanding discipline. The Exhibition Drill team marched at the back of the formation and wore the United States Army Dress Blues armed with specially weighted dummy M1 Garand rifles used in precision drill. The team represented the epitome of precision drill performing their routine perfectly and receiving much applause from the audience.

If you missed your chance to see the cadets from Fishburne Military School Monday evening, the entire corps of cadets will march this Saturday, Dec. 3 in the Waynesboro Holiday Parade beginning at 6 p.m. through the streets of Waynesboro.
