Cadet Daniels ’13 Goes to Korea
It’s not every day that one of our cadets heads to the other side of the world for a month. Well… unless he’s an international student and his family lives abroad. In this case, Cadet Tyler-Christian Daniels ’13, of Fishersville, VA, got the opportunity to visit South Korea due to a year-long business assignment his dad was given to reshape a popular American clothing brand.
Tyler’s dad, Fred Daniels, was given the challenge of rebuilding the Ralph Lauren clothing label in Korea after it was devalued by poor decisions made by the previous supplier. Fred is charged with once again establishing Ralph Lauren as a premium label. In order to save a few bucks, the previous supplier had produced poor quality garments. The brand had cheapened in the eyes of Koreans.
Tyler’s trip to Korea, along with his mom, Adrienne, was filled with enjoyable moments. Cadet Daniels described visiting a zoo – too large to see in one day, along with plenty of urban sightseeing. His favorite Korean food was Chicken Bulgogi, a dish that can be found most places. He bought lots of souvenirs, and enjoyed the museums he and his mom visited while his dad was working.
When asked why someone should go to Korea, Tyler said, “Go to Korea because their culture is one of the most interesting in the Southern Hemisphere.”
Tyler successfully completed all of his FMS homework assignments while abroad. His teachers were able to communicate via email through the duration of his visit.
